“I went to the first one and they were rude to me so I went to the other one.”

“Son of a bitch,” he muttered. “I’m sorry they treated you that way.”

“It happens.”

“Too fucking much.”

“It’s all right. I understand.”

“I suppose, Stephanie.”

“I’ll be home in a while. After I get your burger, I’ll speak to the Realtor then be back at the ranch.”

“I’ll pay you when you get here. Thanks, I appreciate it. I’ll see you in a little while.” He hung up without giving her a chance to reply.

Hitting End, she stuffed the phone back into her pocket and waited for her meal. When Connie brought it, Stephanie told her Bonner wanted a burger and to add fries to the order. After eating her meal, she walked to the counter to pay for it and Connie handed her a bag containing Bonner’s burger and fries.

“Thank you, Connie.”

“Thank you, Stephanie. You come back, you hear me?”

Stephanie quickly blinked her eyes and nodded. She couldn’t speak for all the money in the world.
